About Meredith
“For small creatures such as we, the vastness is bearable only through love.” - Carl Sagan, Contact
Meredith was born in Seattle, Washington, and since then has lived in all four corners of the United States: Alaska, California, Arizona, Florida, and now Massachusetts. She has had a passion for the oceans, science, aviation, space, sci-fi, running, and writing since she was a small child and is deeply grateful for the ways these facets of her life have since intersected.
She studied Marine Science and Philosophy at Eckerd College, earning her B.S. in 2005. In 2007, Meredith achieved her Master of Aeronautical Science degree from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University while studying the range of remote sensors on both spacecraft and deep-sea submersibles. Since 2005, Meredith has been a science teacher and cross country coach in both private day and boarding schools in Florida, California, and Massachusetts. In 2022, she started a doctoral degree in Education through Wilmington University and started teaching at her current home and school, The Cambridge School of Weston. Her doctoral work focuses on the role of American boarding schools in the contemporary educational landscape.
Meredith grew up in a family of pilots and earned her private pilot’s license in 2002. Her family adventures also included raising emus and running an equestrian center in Eastern Washington, at which Meredith learned equestrian skills and competed in 3-Day Eventing throughout high school. Her passion for the ocean lead her to a SCUBA certification in 2001 and she has since accumulated enough dives and training to earn a PADI Divemaster rating. As a young adult, she also studied karate under the Superkicks system and earned her Black Belt in 2009. Meredith has been an avid distance runner since she was 7 years old, competed in cross country at her beloved high school, The Orme School of Arizona, and ran her first marathon in 2010. Since then, she has qualified for the Boston Marathon multiple times, which she ran in 2016 and 2017. Today, Meredith is seeking to complete the World Marathon Majors as well as a marathon on every continent.
Growing up watching Star Trek, Meredith has carried a deep curiosity and interest in futurism and humanity as expressed through science fiction. In 2013, she published her first sci-fi short story, The Companion, followed by Nomadic in 2014 and a sequel to The Compaion titled The Illuminated in 2020. Since 2006, Meredith has been working on a sci-fi epic novel that she has yet to complete. From 2018-2020, she co-hosted a podcast exploring the synergy between science fiction and science fact, The Space Between Podcast: Science Fiction to Science Future. Her passion for running, both as an athlete and as a coach, also inspired her to write about postpartum training in her first non-fiction work, Faster After Baby, published in 2015 while she was home with her youngest son, Jack.
In whatever free time she may come across, Meredith also enjoys reading, traveling, crocheting and knitting, and video gaming.
She lives in Weston, MA with her son, Jack, and energetic dog, Sansa.
